Food & Your Mood
is a structured 8 session programme designed to help you increase awareness and take control of the eating habits that have made you gain weight.

This isn’t primarily a “diet” programme - although we will look at successful diet strategies - it is a way of helping you understand your relationship with food so that you can eat when you are hungry and get on with the rest of your life.

Using “evidence-based” techniques, the programme will support you as you discover what, why, when and how you eat. Replace bad habits with new, healthier ones, and build your self-esteem while your waistline shrinks.  Cognitive Hypnotherapy is recommended by TherapyAdvisor.com as the most effective way of losing weight and changing your eating patterns. CBT offers proven strategies for you to change unhelpful behaviour and ways of thinking. The power of hypnotherapy has been widely recognized in achieving relaxation and stress-reduction, and stopping unwanted habits. WHAT IS INVOLVED?

  • An initial 60 minute personal consultation

  • Eight 90 minute groups, spread over 12 weeks, covering:
    • Self-esteem & body image
    • Awareness of your eating patterns
    • Changing your attitude to food
    • Strategies that work for you
    • Developing your support network
    • Setting realistic goals
    • “Mindless eating” & mood
    • Cravings, temptations & eating out
    • Saying “no” - to food and people!
    • Self-esteem & body image
    • Developing your support network

  • “Homework” between sessions to keep the momentum going


Each session will include approximately 60 minutes of group discussion and thought-provoking tasks in pairs, followed by 30 minutes of hypnotherapy.

The hypnotherapy will help you to become more relaxed and less prone to stress-related "mindess eating", and will use a range of different suggestions to change your eating patterns, build your confidence, and help you maintain motivation.

Three hypnotherapy CDs will be provided for personal use between sessions, and self-hypnosis may be taught if the group feels it would be useful.  Each group will have different needs and attitudes, so the programme elements form a basis that will be tailored to suit  individual requirements.

The course will be accompanied by notes, handouts and worksheets to keep you on track.

Each group will have no more than 14 participants to ensure a supportive and confidential atmosphere.

A 4 session weight maintenance course will be available for those who have reached their target weight, to sustain momentum and reinforce positive new habits. Thereafter, monthly support groups can be arranged if requested.

The programme has  been designed to meet National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) “best practice” guidelines, and the recommendations of TherapyAdvisor.

 

WHEN AND WHERE?


A new programme will be run approximately every three months, depending upon demand.

Groups will be starting in:

  • AUGUST 2008
  • SEPTEMBER 2008
  • JANUARY 2009
  • APRIL 2009

Oxford House, Temple Cloud, BS39 5BW - Next door to Cameley Surgery

However if you live within 20 miles of Bristol or Wells, groups can be arranged in your local area if there is sufficient interest and a suitable venue can be found.


WHAT WILL IT COST?

  • Initial one hour personal consultation and assessment to discuss your life, health and relationship with food: £30
  • Weight loss programme: eight 90 minute sessions over 12 weeks: £120 for the course
  • Follow-on Weight maintenance programme: four 90 minute sessions over 8 weeks: £60.
